Insights - A View From Senior Partner John Jones


This week I am developing my post lock down plan for work and so I'll be posting a short update on a daily basis to share my experience.


MONDAY = I made a strategic decision to work in our new office on Wigmore Street today to see what the change would bring, and to review some key issues I can’t work on at home. I travelled in by train so I needed to better prepared than usual, Station Parking App to refresh and Oyster Card to top up for a start. And of course there is more to take in and bring back home again now we have several places of work….a mask (plus spare) and sanitizer, and I have more ear phones now and chargers, make sure I have home and work sets!!


The new office is super Covid compliant and spacious with excellent meeting space in The Cavendish Collective (our new venture with Frogmore). The location is great and the space encourages a positive back-to-work energy. It’s still very quiet in town but the ‘take away’ offer is improving, and Deliveroo is a ‘must have’ App.


Main task today was to view a vacant café/restaurant unit in Holborn for a client. It was vacated just before lockdown but should quickly let again if we can clear the unit and encourage viewings. It’s in a great location, but needs to have the old fittings taken out and be prepared as a ‘shell and core’, ready to fit out. Reducing voids and increasing rental income is a priority as Asset Managers for our key clients, so we always take the initiative, rather than just leaving it to the letting agent. The key here was to inspect the unit myself; the location, the condition, and the opportunity. Lockdown has reminded me that getting out to inspect a property asset is essential if you want to maximise its value. As the weather improves and its still quiet in town, now is also a good time to take a Boris Bike, exercise, and see what’s been going on in London over the last year.
